Student Devotional – Will Fox John 15:1-17

Everything that we do without Jesus is for nothing. Let that sink in for a moment. We can do so little without his strength and wisdom.

However, John 15:7 offers us some reassurance. Jesus says to us, “If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you.” This is some really good news. Jesus is painting the picture here of what will happen in our lives if we abide in his love and model ourselves after the example that he set forth for us. No longer is the Lord telling us that we cannot bear fruit on our own, he is instead encouraging us that if he is our guide, we will be able to have our prayers answered, and with faith in him, his will for us revealed. This promise that he offers provides me with great hope during this time of uncertainty. I’m sure many of you just like myself have doubted if he really does hear our prayers. His guarantee in verse seven helps us realize how silly it is to doubt our Lord. With this being said, I encourage and invite you to remain in him, and to have his words remain in you, so that He may be able to grant your wishes, and that we will bear much fruit.
