For December 2

How much of your time do you spend thinking about the future? A lot of it, right? Now how many of those thoughts revolve around achievements or tangible things? I’m guessing most of them. This is our reality, one which we need to try our best to fight. We are constantly surrounded by things of this world, told that these are the important things, these are the things that will bring us joy. But this is not the truth. Jesus is the truth, and his kingdom is not of this earth. We see this in this passage, where Jesus acts deliberately to fulfill Old Testament prophecies. He suffered and died on the cross for us so that we could join him, so that there would be more for us beyond the earth. He is the most important thing, and we should live our lives accordingly. In verse 35, John writes “The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.” Like John, we should share this good news with those around us. I know it can be difficult, but hearing this news can improve someone’s life so much. In a world where earthly things take up so much of our lives, make a change by sharing the word of God.Pray with me: Lord, thank you for everything you do for us. Thank you for sending your son to die for our sins, so that we can have eternal life in you. Lord, please help me to focus on you and to resist the allure of earthly things. Help me to find comfort and joy in your presence, and to share your message with others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
